Every Saturday we invite a guest teacher or choreographer or professional dancer to teach our advanced students. This year we expanded the program to include two contemporary ballet classes as well as advanced Ballet and Pointe.
This has been a great opportunity for the advanced students to train with professional dancers & other accomplished teachers and get a different perspective on their Ballet technique. These classes are for students who have had a minimum of 4 years of both Ballet and Pointe training.
This Saturday June 8th., is the last of our Saturday Guest Series for the year. We resume this program in September. Next Saturday June 15th., there will not be a guest due to the End of Year Workshop Performance which is being held at the Mastrobuono Theater at Rutgers University.
Wies van Houplines will be our final guest for the year. Wies started her dancing at the age of 4. She did her classical ballet training at the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp in Belgium and later at the State Ballet School of Cracov Poland. She obtained a BA in Contemporary Dance from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in Belgium.
Wies completed her training in the Masa Dance Journey Program in Israel. She then became a certified Gaga teacher at the Gaga Teacher Training Program also in Israel. She then returned to Belgium and graduated with an additional BA in Dance Education at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. There she taught students, teenagers and adults contemporary, jazz and classical ballet. She guided several jazz selection teams through competitions. Her students won several prizes including a first prize for Jazz at the Belgian National Cheer and Dance Championships.
In 2016 she and her husband moved to the States. She teaches Gaga at Gratitude Yoga in Princeton, Raritan Community College and Rider University. She has been attached as a part time lecturer of Gaga to Mason Gross/Rutgers University for the past 2 Fall semesters. She still travels to Europe for workshops on a regular basis.
